Air Force Jobs by ASVAB Score: Lowest to Highest Minimums
Official minimum ASVAB scores for Air Force jobs, from 38 General to 88 Electronics, straight from airforce.com, plus how the M, A, G and E scores work.
The Air Force publishes the minimum ASVAB score for each enlisted job on its official site, airforce.com. We went through the job pages and collected them, so you can see the full range in one place — from jobs that ask for a 38 to one that asks for an 88. Before the tables, one thing to understand: these aren't AFQT scores.
The four Air Force scores: M, A, G and E
The Air Force sorts jobs using four composite scores built from your ASVAB subtests. The official ASVAB site lists how each is calculated:
| Air Force score | What it's built from |
|---|---|
| G — General | Verbal (VE) + Arithmetic Reasoning |
| A — Administrative | Verbal (VE) + Mathematics Knowledge |
| E — Electronic | Arithmetic Reasoning + Mathematics Knowledge + Electronics Information + General Science |
| M — Mechanical | A combination of Arithmetic Reasoning, verbal, Mechanical Comprehension and Auto & Shop |
VE is the verbal score built from Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension.
Your AFQT decides whether you can enlist; these four decide which jobs you qualify for. airforce.com also notes that applicants who aren't high school graduates (or alternate credential holders) need an AFQT of 65 or higher, and that you must be at least 17 and not yet 42 on the date you enlist.

Some jobs ask for two scores at once, and a few accept either of two (for example, Remotely Piloted Aircraft Sensor Operator: General 64 or Electronics 54). Many jobs also list other qualifications on the same page — for example normal color vision or a valid driver's license — so the ASVAB minimum is only one of the requirements.
What this means for how you study
- Pick the score, not just the job. A General-score job depends on your verbal skills and Arithmetic Reasoning. An Electronics-score job also needs Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information and General Science.
- The AFQT sections count twice. Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge and the verbal sections feed your AFQT and most Air Force scores.
- Don't skip the technical sections if you want a technical job. Electronics Information and General Science feed the E score; Mechanical Comprehension and Auto & Shop feed M.
Requirements change — confirm them
These minimums are what airforce.com showed when we checked (October 2026). Requirements can change, and a recruiter has the current ones. Use these tables to plan, then confirm.
Our free practice test covers the four AFQT sections with the computer version's time limits and gives you an AFQT estimate — a practice estimate, not an official score, and not an Air Force composite. For how composite scores work across branches, see Army Line Scores Explained.

Quick answers
What is the lowest ASVAB score for an Air Force job?
Among the job pages we checked, Pest Management listed the lowest: a General score of 38. You also need to meet the AFQT minimum to enlist.
What Air Force job needs the highest ASVAB score?
Scientific Applications Specialist listed Mechanical 80 and Electronics 88 — the highest we found.
Is the Air Force General score the same as the AFQT?
No. The General (G) score is a composite of verbal skills and Arithmetic Reasoning used for job qualification. The AFQT decides whether you can enlist.
What AFQT do I need for the Air Force without a diploma?
airforce.com says non-graduates (and those without an alternate credential) need an AFQT of 65 or higher.
